8 Things To Know About College Recruitment.
When you take the ACT or SAT you need to have a certain score to get into the elite universities. In addition, some schools like University of Michigan require student-athletes to take the written test as well, which is an added section of the ACT or SAT. Americans usually start to study for the ACT or SAT when they enter high school. If you study enough you should be able to pass the test.
1. Make sure to email universities with a highlight video, HS transcripts and ACT or SAT score.
2. You have to email many schools because not a lot of them reach out to players, especially Canadian players. Even if it means emailing 25 schools before you get an offer.
3. Sign up for the ACT or SAT months before because they only offer a certain number of tests in Canada. You may have to go to Bellingham to write it. I did the test once in the U.S and the twice in Canada.
4. You are eligible to play 4 years for an NCAA team and 5 years for a Canadian school.
5. If you get any type of scholarship, make sure to read it carefully. Scholarships can be written for 4 years or can be renewed yearly. I recommend the four-year agreement on a scholarship because you don’t have to worry about them taking your scholarship away every year.
6. Also, if a coach from a given school leaves before you sign a letter of intent, your verbal agreement is completely irrelevant.
7. The SAT is generally regarded as a slower, but more difficult test than the ACT. It is more focused on Math than the ACT. I would try a few practice tests of both (just google them on the internet), and see which one you score better on. Then, pick one or both to sign up for. Try to start studying early so you aren't stressed right before you go to college.
8. Before picking a school, look at every possible scenario. Ask yourself questions:
* How far is the school from your hometown?
* What’s my scholarship going to be?
* Is the team any good? Is the coach any good?
* How’s the team been for the last ten years and are players getting drafted?
